20 minutes away from Krabi town there is a little beach that is only accessible by boat. The neighboring bay of Ton Sai Beach is the home to Railey Beach and is known as a great place for adventurous travelers.
Climbing, Kayaking, Relaxing… something for everybody!
You will find excellent limestone cliffs that are perfectly suitable for rock climbing for beginners, intermediates and experienced climbers. For the ones who climbing is a little bit too much around Railay beach you will find lush green jungle perfect for a walk.
There are many opportunities for a little adventure around Railey, if you prefer to be off the land, you can rent kayaks for cheap money and spent your day on the water. There are many big rocks laying in the bay and waiting to be discovered. Take your snorkeling gear and a waterproofed camera and explore the waters around the rocks.
If you only want to relax at the beach, railay west is the perfect place for a relaxed day at the beach, you can order fresh coconuts and enjoy the relaxed vibe around the beach. If all the people are too much for you, take a 10-15 minutes walk through the jungle and visit Ton Sai Beach, a beautiful little stretch of beach with hippie bars.
Drinking and Chilling
The travelers who are looking for some cheap holiday deals will have fun at the several bars at Railay East.
One of the best bars is called The Last Bar, which is literally the last bar on the promenade of Railey East. They often have live music and some cheap drinks also the food is very good!
A fun bar can be found in Railay East, to get there you have to take the street after the little dive/snorkeling shop and follow the little path to the entrance of the Diamond Café. The car is called Rampala and has a nice chill out area underneath the rock. From here you can watch people climbing the rock and you also have a nice view over the sea.
Only tell your best friends…
A great tip you can only tell your best friends is Phra Nang Beach, which is south of Railay. To get there you have to take a long tail boat, kayak or walk through the bush for about 20 minutes. This beach is truly deserted and you will have a great view of the two single rocks in the water. Here you can take the pictures of Thailand that you have always seen on postcards and publications. And if that isn’t enough off the path take another 15-20 minutes walk further sound to the lagoon with a little bit of luck you will see some gibbons and langours.
Have you visited Railay beach before? Did you like it and do you have any other recommendations for the area? Please leave your opinion in the comments!
I have to thank Sebastian/Off the Path for this post! It was published just in the nick of time, as I was deciding where to head to next. One of those lovely coincidences you HAVE to take advantage of! The recommendation was spot on in terms of what I was looking for and, after I read this note I decided I couldn’t go anywhere else (even though I’m sure I still have loaads more to explore in Thailand)!! I’m certainly glad I took the time to visit Railay, and the walk/slippery climb down to the lagoon is going down as one of the highlights of my trip! If any of you get the time to visit make sure you don’t miss it!
