Halloween in Transylvania

The dream of millions and only a couple get the chance to celebrate it at the most popular Halloween spot in the world: Transylvania!

I personally think that it is very overrated and not worth visiting Transylvania only because of Halloween. But I was told that the main Halloween parties were on the weekend as Halloween 2011 was a Monday.

We therefore missed the big parties. Nevertheless, we had a lot of fun and visited the overrated and crowded Dracula’s Castle and the beautiful Peles Castle in Sinaia.

If you only want to visit Transylvania over Halloween because of Dracula, stay at home because you will be very disappointed if you don’t book one of the very expensive tour packages which last for 3-5 days. If you would like to see the beautiful country of Transylvania I definitely recommend you visiting it in autumn. The country looks beautiful and mysterious with the yellow and orange colored trees and leaves on the ground. The low sun gives everything a beautiful color while the temperatures are still over 10 degrees, which makes it even more enjoyable.

Make sure you inform yourself ahead of time of what there is to do during Halloween and when the parties are. They told me that most parties are always on the weekends before.

A great hostel to stay at is Kismet Dao, about 10 minutes walk from the city center of Brasov with great service.

I didn’t get to Transylvania during Halloween, but I went there this summer. They had a new torture display up in Dracula’s Castle. I still have nightmares.

Hi Sebastian. We didn’t know you were in Transylvania during Halloween 2011. Each year we organize a Halloween Party in Sighisoara Citadel. It’s a lot of fun with a Ritual Killing of a Living Dead (as was seen on Travel Channel) and Howling at the moon contest and Fire Games and Knights Fights – we are about 30 organizers and mainly we do the party for the participants in our literary Dracula Tours but we accept participants at the party from outside also. We are enjoing and so our guests. Best regards Alin

I wish I was there to enjoy Halloween festival. I love that. It’s my dream since childhood to be part of this festival in Transylvania. I tried at home making Halloween with pumpkin and brighting it up through light at night. I missed those days thanks for memorize.
