Snow, Sun and Skiing. Three words that go perfectly with Lech Zürs am Arlberg in Austria.

Lech-Zürs Am Arlberg!

A few weeks ago I visited Lech-Zürs am Arlberg for a weekend of skiing, the two towns are very different from all the rest in Austria, two of the richest towns in the country with some of the slopes. They recently opened a brand new line connecting them to the ski region of Warth-Schröcken with the new Auenfeldjet.

Skiing fun

The Arlberg region seriously has some great slopes and I had such a great time skiing down all the different slopes with Dylan, Troels, Stephan and our great ski instructor Richard. I would consider myself an intermediate skier, it was the first time skiing this season and I’ve only been skiing twice in the last five years but I am an adrenaline junkie and had no problem with the red and black slopes and think that the slopes are perfect for everybody of any level.

We were incredibly lucky with the weather. Except of a short snowstorm at the end of the first day it was sunny all the time. It is so much fun to ski in the sun and sit on one of the huts at 2.000 meters overlooking the alps while the sun shines into your face.

Cineastic Gondolas

For the third time the region of Arlberg and the towns of Lech and Zürs organized the Cineastic Gondolas, a festival on the top of the Rüfikopf, one of the mountains in the region. The festival consists of curated animation short films that are shown in the gondolas on the way up to the stations at 2.350 meters. Next to the short films in the gondolas they placed art installations all over the mountain. There are some freaky installations and films. Dylan described the event as “the most psychedelic thing I’ve seen without the influence of drugs”.

Up at the Rüftikopf, they built a big stage with bars and a dance floor outside at -10 degrees where they had a huge party after showing all the movies with international and national DJ’s playing until late in the morning. Afterwards they even organized a after party in Lech for those that didn’t have enough at 2 A.M.
