24 hours in Transylvania

You definitely need more time in this beautiful country but here are some advices of what you can do in 24 hours in Transylvania!

1st Stop: Bran Castle aka Dracula’s Castle

On the list of most travelers you will find Dracula’s Castle in Bran. It’s up to you to decide if it is worth visiting it or not. Personally, it disappointed me and the people traveling with me. But as for others it was a must see for us and very high on our bucket list for Transylvania.

When entering Bran you will immediately see the big castle lying on a hill overlooking the town. To get there you have to walk through a street full with souvenir shops trying to sell everything, from cheese to monster masks. Once you have passed all the shops you will find yourself in a pretty long queue with many tourists from all over the world.

To see the castle you need about 1 hour (max. 2 hrs).

If you travel with public transportation I would recommend that you take a taxi to Sibiana, which is about 50 kms away from Bran. Taxis cost about 120 RON but you can get them down to 80-90 RON.  The journey takes about 1 hour.

2nd Stop: Peles Castle in Sibiana

The taxi drops you right in front of the Castle. When you step out of your cab the view will blow away your mind. It’s a very beautiful castle overlooking a valley. From the 160 rooms only 20 are accessible for tourists. After visited Dracula’s Castle and probably disappointed bit it, you will love Peles. Monday the castle is closed but for a little tip the security guards will let you into the garden to take some pictures for about 20 minutes! (Don’t pay more than 10-20 RON per Person).

To get back to Brasov you can either have to take the Train or the Bus. Both cost nearly the same (around 6 RON) and take between 2 and 3 hours.

3rd Stop: Have dinner at a traditional Transylvanian restaurant.

After a long day of sightseeing you should go into the city and visit the Restaurant Sergiana (Strada Mureșenilor 28 in Brasov).

They have very good traditional Romanian food and delicious wines. Remember to drink a Palinka after dinner, it’s good for digestion and you definitely have a great night after some of them.

4th Stop: Hit the pubs

To finish your day go to one of the bars in the city center. There are a lot of fun places and the chance of meeting fellow travelers is high.

TIP: Make sure you don’t go on Mondays as most attractions in Romania are closed.

Are you planning to visit Transylvania? Or have you already been there?

It’s definitely on my list. Looks so beautiful, and I tend to enjoy smaller places :-)

I believe this still doesn’t let you take pictures inside Peles castle right ? Been there 3 years ago and it didn’t let us took any pictures, although my husband managed to secretly picture a couple rooms. The details inside Peles castle are incredible, it’s a must see !

No you unfortunately can’t! But it gives you time to walk around the castle and take pictures without a crowd in your photos!!!

An amazing castle, I would love to see it. It is obviously not so scary. After all the Dracula books I have read and movies it would be interesting to visit Transylvania and the Dracula castle. Interesting post. Thanks.
